24 Hour Curves-A-Thon supports local charity.
Women’s fitness centre to host a 24-hour gym session to support local Breast Cancer Charity.
Curves in Tottenham is hosting a 24 hour non-stop gym session starting at 9am on Saturday 17th October and ending at 9am on the morning of Sunday 18th. They hope to raise vital funds for local charity “Future Dreams” via sponsorship from local businesses and individuals.
Rebecca Stoddard, the manager of Curves in Tottenham, explains. “Curves specializes in a complete 30 minute workout just for women and the aim is to have at least one person exercising at Curves throughout the 24 hours. Each individual only needs to do their regular 30-minute workout but that means we need 48 volunteers over the 24-hour period. Our members are already coming forward to offer their support but we would welcome any non-members to also get involved. We are even asking men to volunteer and Curves is usually strictly women only. It will be the three o’clock in the morning slot that will be hard to fill!”
Future Dreams is a charity set up by inspirational breast cancer survivors, mother and daughter Sylvie Henry and Danielle Leslie from Mill Hill, North London. In 2008 they produced a triumphant gala evening in the West End, culminating in over £300,000.00 being raised for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Whilst planning this year’s event to be held at the Piccadilly Theatre on October 4th, Sylvie unfortunately lost her battle against lung cancer. Unbelievably Danielle discovered in late June a reoccurrence of her breast cancer and has recently started chemotherapy. She is now even more determined and focused to raise a substantial amount for this cause.
Stoddard comments, “Once we had heard Sylvie and Danielle’s story we knew we had to offer our support. We are passionate about doing all we can to help minimize the risk of breast cancer to all women and throughout October we will be supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month by offering new members the chance to join for free in exchange for a donation to the charity. Additionally this year we will give each new member a free Liv-Aid™, a simple medical device that is designed to aid correct breast self-examination. By organising the Curves-A-Thon we hope that people will offer their support by sponsoring us. No amount is too small and we really appreciate every penny that people can donate.”
